Thankfully, Judge O’Hara and Ms. Jill Morris (not Bob Dylan) will speak on October 21, 2013, over the noon hour (lunch provided) about new local rules in the District of Kansas and the Western District of Missouri.

Judge O’Hara will discuss the changes in the District of Kansas that will flow from the Rule 1 Task Force recommendations and any subsequent practitioner comments.  Implementation of the Rule 1 Task Force’s recommendations have caused four civil-case-management forms to be completely revised: (1) the initial order regarding planning and scheduling; (2) the Rule 26(f)-planning report; (3) the scheduling order; and (4) the pretrial order.  The District of Kansas has also revised its ESI and protective order guidelines as well as developing new summary judgment guidelines as part of the Rule 1 Task Force.  As these changes are sure to effect almost all civil litigation in the District of Kansas this really is a can’t miss discussion.

Ms. Morris, Director of the Western District of Missouri’s Mediation and Assessment Program, will discuss the revised General Order governing Mediation and Assessment Program.  Significantly, parties are now required to mediate cases assigned to MAP within 75 days of the Rule 26(f) meeting.  Almost all civil cases in the Western District of Missouri benefit from the Court’sEAP so this provides a great opportunity to hear the Program’s Director discuss the revised rules governing early mediation.
